Hi.

Welcome to threethings. I document my adventures in food, travel and life (threethings). Thanks for stopping by!

2 0 1 9 : happy new year

2 0 1 9 : happy new year

I contemplated, wrote and rewrote today’s post, unsure how it would look. Would I focus on reflection? Or maybe on goals? While I have gone through all the photos from 2018 on my phone and also remembered the tender and difficult moments between the snaps and I have also set some tangible 2019 goals, I didn’t want this post to be about either.

The New Year rhetoric has always been one of hustle, resolutions, change, movement and the ‘new.' Don’t get me wrong, I love all these things, they motivate me, and I thrive on them. Though, this year, I decided to change it up and start the year with stillness. I don’t often slow down, and even if I try my mind is always racing. It was racing this past week of all the exciting recipes, travel guides and journals I want to share with you, it raced with all the things I would like to accomplish at work this coming year and how exactly I will lead a healthier and more balanced life.

I am looking forward to the year ahead and all the excitement that is to come, but I wanted to start the year off with stillness. Stillness and gratitude. A moment, or a day to slow down, sip my coffee without simultaneous tackling my never-ending to-do list. Go for a leisurely walk with Doug and Charlie take a moment to recognize how lucky I am to have them in my life. Not that I have to try on this, but slow down and enjoy slowly cooking and eating a meal in my newly renovated kitchen. Slow down to express gratitude to everyone who has visited Three Things these past few months, given me endless words of encouragement and helpful tips! Watching you cook my meals and share stories has been truly inspiring. It’s easy always, but especially during this time to live in the past or the future, but I hope you’re all taking a moment to embrace today.

I look forward to many more conversations around this virtual kitchen table. Happy New Year!
